Table for One (WIP)
For my senior project at SCAD I wanted to explore the story of a self conscious character who pushes himself to eat alone at a ramen restaurant. The inspiration came from going through the same ordeal while interning in Boston, a city that was new to me, where I didn't know anyone.
It's such a simple task to eat alone but my little character's mind over complicates it. He worries what others around him think of him eating alone: do they think he's a loser? That he has no friends? That he got stood up? He loses himself and gets sucked into the hectic world of his mind.
But then he suddenly realizes when his food arrives that no one in the restaurant knows him. They're all strangers. It doesn't matter what they think. He relaxes and is finally able to enjoy himself, his meal, but most importantly, he is able to be in the moment.
